COVID-19 Holiday Guidance As New Year Approaches

by | Dec 30, 2020

People are growing weary as more communities across the country are becoming sustained hotspots for COVID-19 infections. And in some places, state and local authorities have imposed new restrictions to slow the spread of the virus.

While distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines may be underway to high priority groups, it’s important for your health and your family’s health that you take care and follow the guidelines set by state/local officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

We encourage all people with lupus to stay at home for your New Year celebrations. This season, putting a pause on large in-person gatherings is highly encouraged and a necessary precaution in slowing the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

If you decide to go out or gather with those outside of your household, please follow these recommendations and safety measures:

  • Wear a mask to cover your mouth and nose in public settings, especially in indoor spaces where it is difficult to maintain 6 feet of separation between people.
  • Stay 6 feet away from others and avoid crowds.
  • Wash your hands often for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, if soap and water aren’t available.
  • Watch for symptoms and monitor your health daily. If you develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and experience serious complications from trouble breathing to pressure and pain in the chest, please seek medical attention immediately.
