Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and sent the legislation to the President for his signature. “We are disappointed that members of Congress failed to remove the significant cuts to Medicaid funding included in this legislation. At a time of rising costs and growing need, the provisions to cut Medicaid funding will have a profound impact on the many Americans with lupus who rely on this program for their health care,” said Louise Vetter, President and CEO of the Lupus Foundation of America.
Unfortunately, the legislation will result in nearly 12 million adults and children losing their Medicaid health coverage. For the approximately 25% of Americans with lupus who receive their health care through Medicaid, the proposed cuts will create even more barriers to accessing the care that is so critical to living with this devastating and unrelenting disease.
Throughout H.R. 1’s legislative process, the Lupus Foundation of America joined other patient advocacy and health care leaders in speaking with members of the Senate and House about the detrimental impact its cuts to Medicaid funding will have on the health and well-being of millions of Americans. The Lupus Foundation of America will continue to fight alongside other patient advocacy leaders on behalf of those with lupus and other chronic conditions as these Medicaid measures are implemented in the states.
